Thankfully, Hasbro made sure to match up Creed’s colors with the previously released Wild Child figure, which is important since they’re essentially a tag team within the X-Men. The irises seem to come down further out of the sculpted eye socked, but it’s very minor. There’s not a lot of issues with the paintwork.

It’s the brown orange jumpsuit and brown.

Paint: Sabretooth was one of the few characters that didn’t have a massive color swap from his normal appearance. His arms also have sculpted hair for that accurate AOA appearance. Joe Mad drew Sabretooth more like a tank and Hasbro used broad pieces to properly capture that look. The texturing on the glove, collar and belt is very nice giving off a leather-like appearance. It features some dents and cracks to show keeping Wild Child in line isn’t always easy. His right wrist has some armor plating since that was the hand he predominantly held the chain that kept Wild Child leashed. It has that sly, about to play with his food vibe as opposed to a more serious and focused demeanor.įortunately there’s an alternate head that is far more fitting for the AOA take on Creed.Īll of the signature AOA X-Men elements are included specifically the studded collar. I’m not sure if I love the default head sculpt’s expression. His hair in general is fantastic with the strands flowing down on either side and his long ponytail. That means he was a bit more stylized than would work easily in figure form, but the exaggerated eyebrows and sideburns remain intact. Likeness: Creed was largely drawn in AOA by Joe Maduerira the most exciting X-Men artist of that era. His bio actually does a good job of explaining Creed’s AOA backstory and his allegiance to the X-Men. I tried to straighten out the claws on both figures for this photo shoot, but as I am sure you are aware, they are pretty floppy.David Nakayama provided the artwork for this wave and I love his wild, unhinged take on Sabretooth. The variant has claw protrusions, so if you want the regular amount of berserker rage, you will have to sacrifice Logan’s good looks. One of the unique aspects of AoA Wolverine is that he is actually missing a hand so on the standard figure, you get a stump on the left side. That is, if all of the joints have not gone floppy. Sometimes it is nice to have a basic figure that can just pose well, and you can certainly get that from this figure. This costume doesn’t really rank in the realm of exciting Wolverine outfits, but that is not the fault of the figure. The sculpt itself is pretty smooth with all of the rather sparse costume details represented in paint rather than sculpt. It is much shorter than most Marvel Legends sculpts, but it retains all of the basic articulation of a Toy Biz figure.

The body is pretty basic, but fitting for Wolverine, especially in stature. I realize that it was seminal moment from the story, but I am not quite sure if a variant was really needed for this figure, but there is no real use crying over milk that spilled a long time ago. The alternate “burned” head is just as detailed, but kind of gross. He is, of course, gnashing his teeth, but the paint details really bring out a lot in the sculpt and are, for the most part, very clean. In fact, I actually really like the head sculpt on the standard figure as I think that it captures Wolverine’s personality very well. Even though I am not a huge fan of the AoA story line, I know when a figure is a good representation of the source material, and the AoA Wolvies certainly qualify as such.
